Bill specializes in identifying all of the key ingredients of proposed ventures and then identifying ways to close the gaps to result in a financeable and sustainable enterprise. Bill is actively involved in the sustainability movement and assisting entrepreneurs, corporations, and municipalities in creating sustainable businesses and developments that enhance the quality of life, economic conditions and the environment.
A Colorado native with 30 years experience in the energy and real estate industries with a number of successful start up companies. Bill’s first start up was Property Resources Inc in 1975 which became one of the most successful investment property brokerage, development and management companies in the Denver area. Bill founded Altresco Inc., (Altresco is an acronym for Alternative Resource Company) in 1986 to pursue the development of alternative energy projects and investments. Altresco Inc evolved to develop the $200,000,000 Altresco Pittsfield 165 MW power plant, Berkshire Energy natural gas pipeline and Altresco Lynn 165 MW power plant, prior to its sale in 1993.
He founded Altresco International in 1992 which assisted in creating the framework for developing the first major power generating facility to be privately financed and built in a developing country, (the Philippines), without a sovereign financial guarantee. The $840,000,000.00 facility provides power to the Manila Electric Company.
Bill founded The Center for Integrated Infrastructure Strategies in 1995 to provide education and assistance to developing countries and energy sectors to facilitate the process of privatization of their energy infrastructure and sustainable environmental policies. CIIS provided services to India, Sri Lanka, China, Korea, The Philippines and Malaysia.
Since 1998 Bill has been focused on the United States and assisting sustainable energy start ups through angel investing and mentoring. Through this activity Bill has participated in several NREL investor forums and has consulted with and participated in the evolution of several promising alternative energy start ups.
Over the last several years Bill has been particularly focused on energy storage solutions including hydrogen, CAES, pump storage, batteries and other possible load balancing solutions that will promote the integration of wind and solar energy. Bill focuses on SYSTEMS, not just individual resource development. A key to implementing renewable energy is the need to locate it and scale it to play well with the other resources that are necessary to provide reliable energy to the end users. Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and New Mexico are all as strong in their ability to provide renewable energy as they are in providing the fossil fuel that powers much of the west. These four states could provide enough raw energy to power the west from renewable alone, but that energy also has to be deliverable when and where it is needed. Having developed and sited everything from power generation stations to transmission and gas pipelines gives Bill a unique ability to understand the entire system and to visualize and implement solutions that will be enabling to the achievement of a GHG neutral electrical generation system in time to make the difference. Bill is currently active as a consultant and principal in several renewable energy enterprises including biomass, wind, solar, water and transmission.
